Programs of the year 2015-2016


Community Event Program:

This is a part of HIV/AIDS intervention program activities to make the Female Sex Workers in Viralimalai block aware of the threat of HIV and all the enrolled FSWs had gathered to get sensitized about the HIV and about their vulnerability to HIV. The district level program manager had participated in the community event and highlighted the significance of regular medical checkup for FSWs to prevent any STIs/HIV. As a part of the program HIV/AIDS awareness event were conducted through display of different IEC posters and brochures on 15.09.2015. 250 community women participated in the event. Best peer educators were felicitated. The guest speakers stressed on the need for the community women to be aware of ways and means of spreading of HIV and the different measures to safe guard them against the infections.


Counseling Program :

Counseling is one of the prime activities of HIV/AIDS intervention to address the emotional disturbances among the FSW due to their vulnerability to HIV infection. Gramodaya holds its counseling services both at the site office at Viralimalai and also during the outreach at hotspots. Almost every member attending the regular medical checkup is provided with counseling services. These services were also offered to the community members when they faced threats and violence by local rowdies or police.


World AIDS Day program:

World AIDS day was observed on 1st December, 2015 with a variety of cultural and community education activities. The event was inaugurated at Viralimalai site office by our Secretary, Gramodaya and the following activities were held

  • Exhibition of IEC materials and condom demonstrations; there were competitions for the participant beneficiaries to use condoms in different jovial ways so as to familiarize the gathering public about the notion condoms.
  • Procession of school and college students holding different placards informing critical messages on HIV and the treatment available as also prevention measures to the general public.

Health Camps :

4 Health camps were held at JJ Nagar, Kavalkaranpatti,and Vadasri and at Gramodaya office campus. These camps were held during September, 2015 – January, 2016. Dr.Shanmugapriya, GH, Manapparai was the chief consultant for the camp. 327 persons were screened among the children and mothers who attended the camps


Summer Camp :

Gramodaya conducts summer camp every year for the children (boys & girls) who are studying from 6th to 10th standard. This year also Gramodaya organized 10 days summer camp program in Gramodaya office premises at Kalathuppatti during the month of May,2017.About 90 children from different standards(6th to 10th ) participated in this summer camp. Two volunteers who have enough experience in organizing children’s program participated in all the 10 days of the summer camp.

Kingston University Students Voluntary Services :
  • Kingston University Students from London (16 persons) were (Sep - 01 to Sep - 07) voluntary services to J.J.Nagar Children and Mothers.
  • They educated to the children like English words, pronunciation, games.
  • Mothers learned Handy craft works ,small games, etc.,
  • Children and Mothers felt very happy about those programmes.
  • J.J.nagar Mothers cooked and demonstrated the nutrition food items :Ragiputtu, Pasiparuppupayasam, Rava gee ball and RavaKeshari.
  • K.U. Students taste the recepies very much interested.

J.J. Nagar Tuition Center New Building Opening Function :
  • New Tuition center Building construction completed and inaugurated on 28.10.2016 J.J.Nagar Tuition center.
  • Our Respected Director. Mr.Gopa Kumar, Lebara Foundation, Respected Country Head. Mrs.PadmaPriya, Lebara Foundation, Gramodaya Secretary/Project Director. Ms.S.Regina Mary, Local Community Leader Mr.John Joseph were inaugurated and lightning the J.J.nagar Tuition Center Building opening.
  • Lebara Foundations Project Officers Mr.Selva Kumar, Finance APO Mr.Sivagnanam were participated the function.
  • Gramodaya Target Children and Mothers, Staffs also parted this function happily.

International Women’s Day Program-combined with free medical camp:

Gramodaya- as an organization focused for the development and upliftment of rural women. It celebrates International women’s day every year in a special way by inviting eminent leaders and all members of the Women SHG’s& rural poor women
For this year 2017-2018, the International women’s day was celebrated along with a free medical camp supported by –Manaparai Government Hospital on 8thMarch 2018in Kavalkaranpatti, Karurdistrict, Tamilnadu.


Free medical camp :

The camp was held between 10 am to 5 pm. Overall 211 persons consisting of children, women, men and old age people attended this camp and utilized the medical services. The team treated general health check-up and provided treatment to the needy people along with suitable medicines. Most of the rural old age women and general people got treatment for visual problems. The children and others were provided treatment for stomach pain, head ache, fever, and the other common health problems. Out of the total beneficiaries, 29 old aged women, 124-ruralpoor women and 42 children were referred to the hospitals those who need to admit for further treatments. Particularly some of the women were having uterus and birth related issues. They were seriously taken care off in this camp and referred to hospital for further more treatment.


Legal Awareness Program for women :

Gramodaya conducts Legal Awareness program for the rural & poor women every year. This year the program was conducted during the month of June, 2017. The main objective of the awareness program is to make the women understand various legal issues and their legal rights. In the legal awareness program the most prevalent issues are related to land and properties, harassments against women and girl children particularly in rural areas. In order to protect women and girl children from the harassments both in the family, work place and in educational institutions, they were provided awareness particularly for the women who were being cheated and exploited by their family members and by others in the society.


Violence against women ,violence and awareness :

On 19th November 2017 Violence against women awareness program was conducted at Gramodaya office, Viralimalai, Pudukottai District. FSWs from all the blocks of Gramodaya intervention areas attended the program. Entire Gramodaya staff, volunteers, beneficiaries attended. The Secretary presided the program and addressed about the violence against women prevailing in the society. Gramodaya Secretary urged the participants to be bold and face the violence against them. She also advised how to safe guard from such violence.


Rights of women, girls & children :

Gramodaya insisted and talked about women empowerment, girl child & children’s and law related to safeguarding the women. Some of the important points are listed below which was delivered by Gramodaya

  • Every woman should have self-confidence with courage, then only they can achieve their goal
  • Woman can get any help from law, whenever their rights are refused by the society
  • They should choose to find a right path to solve the problems.
  • Women need to know about laws that protect them in India which can help then at any time later.
  • We need to improve the speaking skills as it will help to solve problems and find solutions in friendly manner and to maintain friendly relationship.
  • Discrimination should be addressed by law.
  • If any sexual harassment faced by woman in the work place, there are laws to protect them
  • High court established five members committee under the Chair of the Collector in every district to address and take action on the petitions given for facing sexual harassment in the workplace. Women have to utilize this law and protect them.
  • A girl should be married after completing 18 years only. If it is not followed, there are laws by which the perpetrators can be fined upto 2 lakhs and also have an imprisonment of 2 years.
  • If they applied for any of the schemes which is getting delayed or the process is stopped without proper information, they can get information using Right to Information Act – RTI.
  • Using RTI, they can ask any queries related to any matter like schemes, procedures to the government.

Training on Child Rights :

Gramodaya conducts child rights trainings every year in Targeted areas. The primary objective of the training is - Child Rights or Rights of Child should be known to everyone. All children are equal and there should be no discrimination for what-so ever reasons. Gramodaya thrives to ensure that child rights are being kept in place and for that conducts child rights training to all the members, stakeholders, education members, panchayat leaders and etc.During this year one program was conducted at one village. Village level CBOs was formed one in each village. In this program, teachers’ head masters, panchayat presidents and government officers participated. All the issues pertaining to child rights were discussed and they were also taught about the core values of child rights such as

  • Right to Survival,
  • Right to Protection,
  • Right to Participation,
  • Right to Development,
  • Right to education &etc.
